Early childhood development (up to five years) is a period of rapid development and a time when lifestyle and education patterns can be adapted to boost gains in health and cognitive development. Scientific research has shown that a child’s trajectory to success begins from birth, influenced by the parents’ education, home-school environment and exposure. Of great significance is the advantage the child receives in terms of quality Early Child Education. Parents and educational institutions would do well to pay greater attention on Early Child Education if they are inclined to steer their children to the path of academic success. 

The essence of good early education, apart from the infrastructure, is the bringing together of talented teachers and a challenging curriculum which in turn, motivates children to be engaged and enthusiastic.

Communication, language and literacy

Speaking, listening, reading and writing are crucial to children’s early development. Teachers work with children through fun activities and encourage them to engage with a wide range of texts so as to ignite a lifelong curiosity for learning.

21st Century learning 

The school systematically works towards developing the much-needed 21st Century skills like critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving in their students through thoughtfully-designed and well-structured programmes. What started as a random entry four years ago to the School Enterprise Challenge (a global awards programme to teach business and life skills), has become an annual project where students of high school successfully operate and manage an innovative business. Their products range from organic vegetables to natural home cleaning and beauty products. 

Creativity helps one change one’s perspective towards life too. It can suggest amazing solutions besides leading us towards positive thinking. This helps one look at problems as opportunities for creativity. It also helps one accept   situations as they are.

We tend to remain in our comfort zone and try to avoid coming out of it. Creative thinking makes us come out of our comfort zones and take action. There can be times when creativity can give you sleepless nights because it does not accept the obvious solution.

It always keeps pushing you to go for the better solution.     

A good relationship with parents is one of the most important factors that contributes to nurturing mental health in children. Look for everyday opportunities to build closeness. This makes it easier for your child to come to you when they face a problem.

Don’t fear for facing failure in the first attempt, because even the successful maths, start with zero- quoted by Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam.

Many parents often don’t want their children to experience heartache or failure. However, one should understand that failures are a part of success and key to building a child’s mental health. So let them taste the failures once in a while and just be on the side-lines to let them learn from it.

One of the most important ways parents can nurture their child’s mental health is to model healthy behavior. That includes being open about your feelings. It also means showing how you learnt from your own mistakes. When our children see that it’s okay to make a mistake, they learn not to hold onto their past mistakes.
